In the LuSHHus Loop - June 13, 2008

Here are some recent reads from around the web that I thought might be worth your while.  Enjoy!

Cupcake

Check out Creature Comfort’s Birthday Giveaway Extravaganza.  This great blog is turning one this month and is celebrating by giving one lucky reader a fabulous collection of prizes.

Healthy Living

There’s some great advice in the Reader’s Digest article called 50 Weight Loss Secrets of "Naturally Thin" People.  You will pick up some easy-to-implement tips on burning a few extra calories and living a healthier life.

Breakfast Tray

I love Lift’s post called Feed Your Daddy: 5 Father’s Day Breakfast Ideas Sure to Please.  All the recipes sound delicious, especially Pan-Seared Oatmeal With Warm Fruit Compote and Cider Syrup.  Yum!

Katie Lee Joel

All the Best posted an interesting interview with Katie Lee Joel whose recent book The Comfort Table has gotten great reviews.  I love Ronda’s interviews in which she always ask varied and unexpected questions.

Have a great weekend!

In the LuSHHus Loop - The Best Blog and Internet Posts From the Past Week

For your reading pleasure, here are links to a few of my favorite postings from around the web this past week.

Perfect Bound Invite and Stamp

Perfect Bound made a great point in her post called Squared Away, and that point is that we should use stamps as stylish as our stationery.  Sure the United States Postal Service has some fun and sometimes even beautiful stamps, but if you want really great stamps, make your own.  Read all about Perfect Bound’s idea here.  By the way, I loved the idea so much that it prompted me to make a LuSHHus stamp:

Write a Letter

This next one seems especially fitting with the mention of the stamp…I can’t help but refer you to the great article I read at The Savvy Gal Online.  It’s called The Lost Art of Handwriting a Letter, and you should read it here.  It’ll probably have you writing a loved one a letter before the day’s end.

Cork Allegra Bag Wood and Shell Bangle

I really love the list of summer accessories that All the Best compiled in this post.  Check it out!  I want all to them!

Ballard Sweeps

If you don’t already know about it, you might be interested in a fun sweepstakes for $25,000 to redecorate your home.  You can enter this drawing, which is sponsored by Ballard Designs and Southern Accents, here

Blackle

Finally, I just had to mention Blackle.  This is a form of Google (it’s actually powered by Google Custom Search) that was created to save energy.  It works just like Google, but, because a computer screen requires more power to display a white or light-colored screen than it does a dark screen, Blackle - which displays an almost all black screen - enables computers to use less energy.  Interesting.

Have a LuSHHus weekend!

For your reading pleasure, here are links to a few of my favorite postings from around the web this past week.

Happy Face

I read a good article at WebMD (the article initially came from Oprah) entitled Five Things Happy People Do.  If you’re feeling less than happy, read about these tips here

The Scoop Home Tour

Check out this stylish apartment over at The Scoop.  The design is great, and most of the furnishings are budget-friendly.

OK, I have to admit that I am just a little bit fascinated with the life of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes and their precious and beautiful daughter, Suri.  So you can imagine I was excited to learn Tom Cruise would be on Oprah this past week.  Then, I was disappointed to realize that he’d be on the show on Friday when I was on a plane (and no, I don’t have Tivo.)  But then, I was again excited when I stumbled upon this lengthy video clip of the interview.  If you missed the Oprah show with Tom Cruise and you too are interested, check out this video.

Junk Mail

A great blog called Eat, Pray, Run contained a post on how to reduce the amount of junk mail you receive.  If you follow one or more of the tips listed, not only will our planet benefit, but you might save yourself quite a bit of time too since you won’t have to sort through piles of unwanted and unnecessary mail.  Click here to read Save Paper, Save a Tree, Save Your Sanity.

Best of the Web!

In the LuSHHus Loop - The Best Blog and Internet Posts From The Week

For your reading pleasure, here are links to a few of my favorite postings from around the web this past week.

Eco Chic Martini from Notes on a Party

Notes on a Party posted a recipe for the Eco-Chic Martini this week.  This cocktail is made with Reyka vodka which is supposedly the most eco-friendly of all vodkas.  Get the delicious-sounding recipe here

Real Food Logo

I have been guilty of spending beaucoup bucks on fancy face creams, but this article may reverse that trend.  Food Bites blog from Real Age wrote about foods that make your skin glow.  It’s a very comprehensive list written by a dermatologist, and I think you’ll learn a thing or two from it.  I know I did.  (Hint: salmon, spinach, and sweet potatoes are among the recommended foods.)

So Haute Chair

So Haute wrote about 15 Eco-Friendly Finds for Greener Living, and I thought the ideas were good.  Check them out so that you know how you can reduce your carbon footprint even when decorating your home.  FYI - the first suggestion is to buy and re-purpose vintage furniture such as the chair pictured above.

Martha Stewart Cleaning Supplies

I really enjoyed reading Martha Stewart’s tips on Healthy Cleaning Habits.  In this article you will learn why most cleaners are so harmful as well as how to make virtually every kind of cleaner yourself using natural, non-toxic ingredients.

HWTM Margarita Popsicles

There aren’t many things I like more than a margarita, so I think the idea for margarita popsicles is fantastic.  If you think so too, check out the two versions Hostess with the Mostess suggests here

Have a LuSHHus weekend!

In The LuSHHus Loop for Friday, April 18

For your reading pleasure, here are links to a few of my favorite postings from around the web this past week.

Orange slices

I found a great article from Women’s Health listing nine stress-busting foods.  Click here to read the article so you’ll know exactly what to eat next time you are feeling stressed (hint: eat avocados, oatmeal, salmon and oranges!)

Wall Decals from Simply Stated

There is a very thorough post at Simply Stated on all the wall decals available.  Some of the designs are really amazing, and this is such a great way to add affordable style and personality to just about any surface.  I really like wall decals (I got these for our Exercise Room last year.)  Take a look at this article if you think wall decals might add a little something to a room in your home.

Vegetable Enchiladas from Martha Stewart

If you are looking for a quick meatless Mexican meal, look no further than these Vegetable Enchiladas from the Dinner Tonight blog by the Martha Stewart folks.  The recipe is simple and it is freezer friendly!

Wine O Cards

Hostess with the Mostess always posts on matters, products, and ideas worth sharing, and this week was no different.  I especially liked these wine tags she mentioned.  Called Wine-O Cards, they are the perfect way to gift a bottle of wine.  Check out the Hostess blog post here and the Wine-O Cards website here.

Asparagus

You will want to read this article at The Daily Green to learn which fruits and vegetables are safe and generally pesticide-free.  Save your money by not buying the organic ones of these so that you can buy organic when it really matters.  FYI - bananas, broccoli, and pineapple are on the "safe" list.
